This weekend was the 50th anniversary of the death of Marilyn Monroe and since I was pretty busy this weekend due to tax free weekend in 'The Land of Enchantment' (New Mexico in case you didn't know) I am doing this post today. Better late than ever I always say :)
Marilyn is my idol. I just love how she made not being skinny beautiful, how she portrayed confidence even tho she was insecure. How she had dreams and goals and she accomplished them no matter what. I love her films, she made me love black and white films. The simplicity of them is just pleasing. So in honor of Marilyn I will share my favorite pictures of her, favorite movies, quotes and a little bit about her life.

Marilyn Monroe (born Norma Jeane Mortenson) was born in June 1st, 1926. "In 1945 a photographer took a snapshot of the stunning brunette within months she became a successful model securing dozens of magazine covers.
By the end of 1946 her hair had become a platinum shade of blonde and her name was changed to Marilyn Monroe."-source
Her first movie was "Ladies in the chorus. |
"STORYLINE: Former burlesque star May and her daughter Peggy dance in the chorus. When May has a fight with featured dancer Bubbles, Bubbles leaves the show and Peggy takes her place. When Peggy falls in love with wealthy Randy, May fears class differences may lead to misery. Marilyn sings "Every Baby Needs a Da Da Daddy" and "Anyone Can See I Love You."-source

My favorite Marilyn Monroe photographs:
source I like this picture because she looks so sophisticated and beautiful. |
source There is probably only a handful of color pictures that I like and this is one of them. I like how she looks so carefree. |
source I love this picture so much that I have it (poster size) in my room! |
source She looks so innocent and beautiful without really trying, I also like the little birdie! My favorite Marilyn Monroe Quotes: " No one ever told me I was pretty when I was a little girl. All little girls should be told they're pretty, even if they aren't." - source “I'm selfish, impatient and a little insecure. I make mistakes, I am out of control and at times hard to handle. But if you can't handle me at my worst, then you sure as hell don't deserve me at my best.” -source “I believe that everything happens for a reason. People change so that you can learn to let go, things go wrong so that you appreciate them when they're right, you believe lies so you eventually learn to trust no one but yourself, and sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.” -source “Imperfection is beauty, madness is genius and it's better to be absolutely ridiculous than absolutely boring.” -source “This life is what you make it. Not matter what, you're going to mess up sometimes, it's a universal truth. But the good part is you get to decide how you're going to mess it up. Girls will be your friends - they'll act like it anyway. But just remember, some come, some go. The ones that stay with you through everything - they're your true best friends. Don't let go of them. Also remember, sisters make the best friends in the world. As for lovers, well, they'll come and go too. And babe, I hate to say it, most of them - actually pretty much all of them are going to break your heart, but you can't give up becuase if you give up, you'll never find your soul mate. You'll never find that half who makes you whole and that goes for everything. Just because you fail once, doesn't mean you're gonna fail at everything. Keep trying, hold on, and always, always, always believe in yourself, because if you don't, then who will, sweetie? So keep your head high, keep your chin up, and most importantly, keep smiling, because life's a beautiful thing and there's so much to smile about.” -source
One of the last photos taken of Marilyn on the Beach in Santa Monica, California in 1962
Marilyn will always be remembered by her beauty, by her story, and her sex appeal. And for some of us, she will be remembered by her determination to become someone better while still being herself.
